I wrote this song about a partner. Before we started spending time together they had gone through a world of love and relationship based trauma to the point they struggled to understand or believe why I loved them. I was pulling inspiration from everywhere and I had been watching The Godfather and there is a part where Sonny gets murdered and Vito Corleone says “Look how they massacred my boy”. That kind of stuck with me in relation to them and that's where the first line came from “Look at how they did mine”. After that it just became a song about taking them around my neighborhood and listening to Frank Ocean with them.
