This terminology is used in various groups involved in the occult and ceremonial magic.” “They often reject societal convention and the status quo, which some suggest is in a search for spiritual freedom. As a part of this, LHP followers embrace magical techniques that would traditionally be viewed as taboo, for instance using sex magic or embracing Satanic imagery. As Mogg Morgan wrote, the "breaking of taboos makes magic more potent and can lead to reintegration and liberation. They often question religious or moral dogma, instead adhering to forms of personal anarchism. They often embrace sexuality and incorporate it into magical ritual. It was relatively easy for her to associate left with evil in many European countries, where it already has had an association with evil and bad luck since the Classical Latin era. As the historian Dave Evans noted, homosexuals were referred to as "left-handed".

So I’m left handed and my ex’s very christian family would make comments about it and me being associated with evil. I also noticed within a lot of western religious groups there was a lot of “issue” with left things. So over the years as I stepped away from organized religion and leaned more into various forms of spirituality and self realization I noticed a lot of my beliefs and ways that I showed up in the world were connected to what white people in the occult call the Left Hand Path. My partners and I pull a lot from African and Native American spirituality which due to colonialism are now viewed as evil or satanic. AKA Black Magic. Not because it is but because the people associated with these beliefs are Black and Brown folks. “The Order of the Left-Hand Path... has its adepts... the Way of Darkness is perpetuated in the horrible Voodoo cult which had its origins in Madagascar and has held Africa, the Dark Continent, in its grip for centuries.” I wasn't aware of this term until after I had written this song and was looking for a title other than ‘Black Magic” but it speaks to not only yielding “white magic” or positive energy to alter the world around you but using all energy to shape your reality. Manifestation, sacrifice, speaking things to existence, balancing light and dark are all things within the left hand path and most African and Native American cultures. Also in terms of queerness or “two spirited people” there is also an elevated existence where in western religious cultures and magic all of these things are damned. This album is full of the “Left Hand Path” in so many ways and felt right to end with.)
